Holders Ahly, Chiefs bow out

African Champions League reigning champions Al Ahly were bundled out of the Orange CAF Champions League in the second round proper by Libya’s Ahli Benghadzi 4-2 on aggregate on Saturday.

The Libyans won the first-leg 1-0 in Benghadzi last week and they repeated the exact same stance on Saturday in Alexandria with a 3-2 win in the second-leg to send shock waves throughout the continent and the entire North African country as a whole.

They will now join the likes of South Africa’s Kaizer Chiefs in the Orange CAF Confederations Cup third round after they too were knocked out in the second round proper of the continent’s flagship event by the DRC’s AS Vita 3-2 on aggregate.

While at it, Supersport United were comprehensively annihilated 4-1 at home by Tunisia’s Etoile Sahel and 5-1 on aggregate to send Cavin Johnson’s men home with their tails between their legs.
